Big Things, Small Team

At the.Lab we may be small but our impact is BIG. We are a team of creative minds with exceptionally high professional values.

Jason Fischer » CEO/ Director of Multi+Media

Jason R. Fischer is one of Omaha's most sought-after photographers and graphic designers. He has been crafting his personal design aesthetic and photography vision for nearly a decade.
Born in Washington, D.C., this creative spent his formative years in Omaha, where he found his early artistic voice in airbrush illustration and acrylic painting. Later, he started incorporating elements of graphic art into his work. As he experience broadened, Jason started dabbling in digital photography.

In the years since, Jason has taught himself dozens of graphic arts software programs, become a master photographer, and conquered the cutting edge components of web design. Finding an early niche in compact disc covers and model pictorials, over the years, Jason has become THE "go-to guy" for professionally designed graphic arts and web design projects.

In 2002, he started Surreal Media Labs, LLC, which provided networking and creative opportunities across the country. This led to features in national magazines, musical websites, and on the covers of dozens of musical projects.

In 2007, Jason married his love for artistic photography, textures, and cityscapes in an African-American exhibit for Love's Jazz & Arts Center in Omaha. His digital depictions of Omaha's past brilliant structures and brick streets, coupled with his expert use of light, angles, and space provided LJAC were one of the highlights of the museums strong showing in community reviews.

Today, it is Jason's artistic vision that provides the backbone of SML's creative direction. He brings a sterling aesthetic, legendary work ethic, and impeccable vision to every project that comes in the door.

K. Fitzgerald Stewart»Chief Technical Writer/Editor

"Stew" honed his formal writing skills in military, corporate, and commercial newsrooms around the world. Informally, he is an active author, constantly turning out essays, blogs, poetry, and web content.

Born in Mobile, Alabama, Stew lived in 5 cities before his family settled in Omaha. In 1990 he left for the Air Force and spent the next 11 years globetrotting, and working as a producer, reporter, anchor, and assignments editor in military broadcasting.

In 2001 he left the Defense Department, and joined the Intelligence Community in Washington, D.C., where he spent another eight years covering U.S. space and reconnaissance activities around the world.

In 2009, he left the Northern Virginia area and returned home to Omaha.

SML is proud to have access to the reporter's eye for details and artist's creativity Stew brings to our team and your written content. Over the years, he has earned a reputation for producing clear, concise copy--even in a crunch.

Terrance Larkin » Master Illustrator / Design

For a club-owner or urban restauranteur in the early 2000s, one of the most distinctive and desirable pieces of artwork that could grace your walls was a commissioned mural, airbrushed and finished with a four-letter signature: SPOT.

Terrence Larkin was the artistic force behind Omaha’s “Spot” graffiti movement. A native of the Phillipines, Spot came to Omaha with his parents as an infant. Over the years her forged a series of relationships that helped him establish himself in Omaha’s art community.
Over time, many of the restaurants and nightclubs that featured Spot’s work changed hands, or were remodeled.

Fortunately, the force is still unquestionably with us. Spot has spent the intervening years tweaking his skills, and has become an established airbrush artist. Today you can see his work on t-shirts and canvas; in magazines, and in children’s book illustrations.

You can also see his handiwork in SML projects. As our master illustrator, Spot has tremendous influence in the “Surreal” style and approach to graphic design and multi-media. We’re proud to keep his style alive.

Rick Espajo » Master Videographer

“Perfection amongst chaos,” is how Surreal Media Lab’s Master Videographer Rick Espajo describes the daily goal of his 18 years in the television industry.

Rick brings extensive video production experience that spans every facet of the television production environment to the SML team.

His work for non-profits, commercial stations, and local governments is an unmitigated asset when your project is on the line.

In addition to his video work, Rick has also worked as a Courtroom sketch and freelance graphic artist. This strong artistic background brings yet another experienced voice to the visual team, and ensures that your project is handled by experienced professionals at every phase.
