At the annual Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO) conference, Matt Jones followed up incumbent governor Pete Ricketts to do what he does best, deliver his exciting motivational speech and sharing his inspirational life story. Matt brought us in to capture the excitement and energy.

We wondered if such excitement was possible, but by the end of his speech, he had this mostly older and politely quite crowd on their feet, outstretching hands up into the air, and shouting out “Victory!” in unison as loudly as they could, as only Matt’s unique story and style could do.

Matt’s drive for motivation and leadership come from a very real and deep place in his heart, from overcoming  three separate diagnoses of cancer, in his bone marrow and later in his cerebral spinal tissue, was something that doctors told him should have been impossible. His journey from a certain doom that left him recovering from unconsciousness with holes in his memory and having to relearn the ability to even walk. Seeing him run and leap on stage, talking about completing over 6 marathons now, with a modest goal of running one on every continent, it truly sinks in to you when Matt says,

“When it comes to your Victory, it’s the inside stuff that counts.”

Here at the Lab, we couldn’t agree more.
